Four years theoretical instruction and practical training in managing pulmonary diseases by means of drugs, physical maneuvers, inhalation of mist and gaseous drugs. Pollution and smoking being rampant in our country coupled with poor housing and cramped conditions in winter – the scenario make our population very vulnerable to pulmonary diseases. The doctors serve to diagnose and prescribe medicines and breathing exercises and nebulizers and postural drainage of lungs. All these modalities of treatment require painstaking effort and time which the Respiratory Therapy has special training to cater for. The modern Intensive Care Units have patients requiring ventilators invasively & non invasively. These ventilators give artificial respiration to the patient. The management of such patients respiratory status is the specialized domain of the Respiratory Therapist who works in coordination with the medical doctors.
After graduation and a few years practical training in good Intensive Care Units these personnel find lucrative salaries abroad and specially in the Gulf counties.
