Introduction:

Institute of Zoology, established in 2018, is one of the most active Institutes in Gulab Devi Educational Complex (GDEC), Lahore, Pakistan. It has committed to teach modern biological sciences involving study of animals and their genetic, morphological and physiological attributes, environmental protection and conservation of animals, as well as to carry out quality research. Presently, the Institute is offering BS Zoology (4 years) degree program, affiliated with University of Sargodha, Sargodha and is providing students with a wide choice of subjects through structured themes.

The vision of the Institute of Zoology, GDEC is to achieve excellence in animal sciences through superlative education and research relevant to National and International standards.

Mission:

The mission of the Institute of Zoology, GDEC is to;

  • inculcate sound knowledge of zoological studies, respect for nature and concern for ethical values among students by providing scientific educational practices.
  • promote and maintain the high grade zoological research in laboratory, field and captivity.
  • impart awareness among the students to conserve terrestrial and aquatic animal’s diversity and ecosystems.
  • equip students with the skills to pursue better opportunities Worldwide.

Objectives:

Zoology is a very broad subject as it encompasses various disciplines such as Developmental Biology, Physiology, Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Parasitology, Entomology, Taxonomy, Evolution, Freshwater biology, Fisheries, Wildlife, Population biology and Ecology etc. Zoology has a pivotal role in sustainable development, environmental conservation, food security, human resource development and ultimately in poverty alleviation. The objective of the BS program is;

  • to educate students regarding major disciplines of Zoology that will enable them to understand principles of organizations and inter-relationships in the biological systems with particular reference to diversity of animals.
  • to train students for advanced studies and specializations in recently emerging technological and multidisciplinary areas such as genetic engineering, biotechnology, molecular biology, biodiversity, fisheries, aquaculture, wildlife, pests and pest management and environmental science etc.
