Introduction

The Department of Biochemistry was established in 2016 under the Institute of Life Sciences, Gulab Devi Educational Complex (GDEC), Lahore. The biochemistry department has highly qualified faculty members, a beautifully constructed building, a library facility, and well-equipped teaching and research laboratories, making it a state-of-the-art department. The academic program offered by the department is designed to meet the country’s need for well-trained manpower to serve the education, health, agriculture, environmental, and industrial sectors.

To make the Department a Center of Excellence in the field of Biochemistry, that fosters scientific ideas and skills, to enhance the quality of life with a better education and cutting-edge research.

MISSION

To promote a creative and innovative study environment for the intellectual and career development of our students so that they become responsible contributors to society. To enhance the understanding of human health by focusing on the scientific disciplines such as Human Biochemistry, Medical Biochemistry, and Biotechnology.

BS Biochemistry

4 Years Degree Program

Eligibility: 45% in FSc. (Pre-Medical)

Affiliated with the Government College University Faisalabad, Faisalabad.

Program Objectives

The educational objectives of the 4-year BS program in the subject of Biochemistry are to;

  • Develop a true understanding of Biochemistry with knowledge-based study and value-added research.
  • Promote the recognition of Biochemistry at National and International levels through specialized knowledge in its sub-domains, we, therefore, are focusing on the development of research in assorted areas, especially in the field of Genomics and Advanced Biochemistry.
  • Grant students with a specialized practical experience that instills the intellect of professional morals in their personal development.
  • Communicate schooling and inculcate a research background in such a manner that develops useful skills in students and inspires them towards a career of modernization. Moreover, to enhance the communication skills in entrepreneurship after becoming graduates.
  • Accomplish high-quality research and produce well-qualified instructors and researchers who may contribute to the development of projects.

Learning Outcomes

After completion of the BS Degree Program in the subject of Biochemistry, students should be able:

  • To become competent Biochemists to effectively deliver products and services beneficial for society.
  • Understand advanced biochemical principles and their applications in health and research.
  • Gain awareness of key issues and emerging trends in the field of Biochemistry.
  • To have the ability to design and safely carry out experiments and to interpret experimental data.
  • To produce substantial original research of significance and quality sufficient for publication.
  • To have the ability to present their work through written, oral, and visual presentations, including an original research proposal.
  • Acquire hands-on training in biochemical techniques for diagnosing health problems.
  • Understand ethical considerations in biochemical research and explore career opportunities.
  • Apply tools and methodologies to interpret published research and address public health challenges.
  • Prepare research proposals and create awareness about health issues at local and global levels.
