Gulab Devi Postgraduate Medical Institute aims at improving health care through addition of a new tier to our hospital care by supplementing it with Allied Health Care technologists and conducting research on indigenous nuances of diseases due to specific environmental factors akin to our own locale. In order to achieve our objectives, work on establishment of a Postgraduate Medical Institute was started. The feasibility studies in 2003 ultimately bore fruit and in 2004, Gulab Devi Postgraduate Medical Institute was established and it gained affiliation with University of Health Sciences, Lahore. As a consequence, Diploma in Cardiology and Diploma in Tuberculosis & Chest Diseases were started for postgraduate Doctors in 2005-2006 session. These diploma courses are presently in progress successfully. Research publications by postgraduate doctors have been published and others are in the offing and each postgraduate doctor has been allocated his field of research and specific topic allotments is under process.
GulabDeviHospital has been given full accredition for training in FCPS Cardiology by the College of physicians & Surgeons Pakistan. It has also been accredited for training in Pulmonology for Diploma in Tuberculosis & Chest Diseases. The Department of Cardiology at GulabDeviHospital has been recognized for MRCP training by the Royal College of Physicians in England.
In pursuance of the directive of the Governor Punjab, the University of Health Sciences, Lahore speeded up its efforts for development of highly trained paramedical personnel. The Gulab Devi Postgraduate Medical Institute also enthusiastically responded by commencing training and education for Allied Heath Professionals. Admission was given to candidates for education and training in B.Sc (Hons) Allied Health Sciences in the disciplines of Cardiac Perfusion Technology,Medical Lab Technology, Emergency & Intensive Care Technology, Respiratory Therapy and Operation Theater Technology. Admissions to aspirants for the above courses were given to a sizeable number of candidates after careful selection on merit. Thus B.Sc (Hons) Allied Health Sciences Courses of four years each started in the above mentioned disciplines from the session 2007 – 2011 and now three batches have already passed out.
Gulab Devi Postgraduate Medical Institute envisages future liaison with the University of Heath Sciences, Lahore to start programs for Ph.D Cardiology, Ph.D Pulmonology, M. Phil in Allied Health Sciences, and liaison with CPSP program of training for FCPS Cardiac Surgery and FCPS Thoracic Surgery.
