The Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics was established in 2016 under the Institute of Food & Nutritional Sciences at Gulab Devi Educational Complex, Lahore with the aim of developing professionals, equipped with the skills to screen and plan dietary interventions for diverse populations suffering from communicable and non-communicable diseases in both global and local contexts. The department is committed to improve human health by training future leaders in the fields of Dietetics and Nutritional Sciences. Students gain practical experience through community and industry exposure via study trips, terminal research projects, and clinical clerkships.

The program educational objectives of the BS 4-year Human Nutrition and Dietetics program are to:

• Analyze, synthesize, and assess scientific literature to make ethical, evidence-based practice decisions regarding nutrition and healthcare.
• Equip graduates with a strong foundation in the basic sciences, as well as research and the practical application of knowledge in the fields of nutrition, food science, and management areas.

The outcomes of the BS 4 years in Human Nutrition & Dietetics are to:

1. Gain an understanding of the fundamentals of nutritious diets and their role in preventing and managing diseases.
2. Apply meal planning principles to create well-balanced and suitable meals, keeping in mind the nutritional needs and requirements, family budget and dietary preferences of various age groups.
3. Demonstrate and display counseling and communication competencies suitable for entry-level professional practice.
4. Inculcate professional attributes and built a portfolio tailored to serve in diverse professional and community organizations.
5. Adhere to the principles supported and upheld by the dietetics practice governance.
6. Increase the awareness of potential interactions between drugs and nutrients and their influence on clinical outcomes.
7. Gain hands-on experience in crafting effective research proposals for thesis and projects.

• Public Health Nutritionist:Promoting community health through nutrition education, program development, and policy-making initiatives in health departments and school health & nutrition programs.
• Clinical Dietitian:Specializing in nutrition care for specific patient populations, such as pediatrics, oncology, or renal patients.
• Researcher or Educator:Conducting research or teaching in academic and clinical settings, including research and teaching institutes globally.
• International Organizations:Working with international organizations like UNICEF, UNDP, WHO, FAO, and the World Bank to address malnutrition and food security issues.
• Corporate Wellness Specialist:Developing and implementing workplace wellness programs for multinational companies.
• Food Industry Expert:Engaging in food product development, catering services, or overseeing food safety and quality in multinational companies and food industries.
• Pharmaceutical Industry Specialist:Providing expertise in the development and promotion of nutrition-related pharmaceutical products.
