DOCTOR OF PHARMACY

Introduction

Pharm. D (Doctor of Pharmacy) is a 5-year degree program that includes a range of subjects that provide a strong foundation in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy and patient care. The institute’s curriculum (approved by HEC/NCRC/PHARMACY/2025/7953 and Pharmacy Council) typically covers major core courses and interdisciplinary/allied courses in the following major departments:

  1. Pharmaceutical Chemistry
  2. Pharmacology
  3. Pharmaceutics
  4. Pharmacognosy
  5. Pharmacy Practice

The GDIP may also offer research opportunities, internships and industry collaborations to provide students hands on experience and exposure to real-world pharmaceutical challenges.

60% marks in FSc Pre-Medical

Program Objectives

The Pharm. D program is designed to prepare competent pharmacy professionals who can contribute effectively to patient care, healthcare system and the pharmaceutical industry.

The main objectives are:

  1. To provide in-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry and pharmacognosy.
  2. To develop the ability to provide safe, effective, and rational drug therapy.
  3. To promote pharmaceutical care, medication therapy management and patient counseling.
  4. To train students in clinical decision-making, therapeutic monitoring and prevention of medication errors.
  5. To enable collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  6. To inculcate professional ethics, legal responsibilities, and moral values in pharmacy practice.
  7. To ensure adherence to national and international pharmacy laws and guidelines.
  8. To develop research skills for drug discovery, development, evaluation, and clinical research.
  9. To encourage evidence-based practice and lifelong learning.
  10. To prepare pharmacists to participate in public health programs such as disease prevention, health promotion, pharmacovigilance, and drug information services.
  11. To provide exposure to pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality control, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs.
  12. To develop effective communication skills for interaction with patients, healthcare professionals, and the community.
  13. To prepare graduates for leadership roles in healthcare and pharmaceutical settings.
  14. To produce pharmacists capable of working in diverse healthcare environments at national and international levels.
  15. To address community health needs with cultural sensitivity.
