Pharmacy is an interdisciplinary field of science covering each and every aspect related to drug. The profession of Pharmacy has now evolved from the traditional compounding and dispensing of drugs to the most advance clinical aspects of drugs and patient care system. The health care system in most of the developing countries has been lacking the appropriate facilities, systems and procedures for the prescribing the medicine. Therefore, a highly educated and skilled Pharmacist is compulsory to solve these issues and also to eradicate the drug related problems.

Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) program in Pakistan was impelled in 2003. The focus of this five year professional degree was to produce highly trained pharmacist especially in the field of clinical pharmacy. Most of the pharmacists in Pakistan are involved in pharmaceutical industries and the rest are serving in drug regulatory authorities, sales and marketing, community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, research and development departments and as teaching faculties in different universities, colleges or institutes. Therefore, the prime focus of Pharm-D program is to train the pharmacy students as highly qualified pharmacists for different fields of pharmacy. These qualified and well trained pharmacists will play their role in the development of quality pharmaceutical products, patient care, manufacturing of drugs according to GMP specifications, drug regulatory authorities, drug discovery and many more.
